Good road, bad holiday; bad road great holiday
If your looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday then check out the quality of the road. Good roads often mean loads of people but poor roads sometimes lead to undiscovered and unspoilt holiday hideaways.
Perhaps it’s my age, or perhaps I’ve always been a little antisocial, but I love holidays where you can get away from the masses and find an exclusive and more personal resort.
I’m not really miserable, I don’t think, but I dislike that aggressive, pushy environment that you so often experience with Brits abroad.
Over the years of travelling round Europe, one of the things that I have noticed is that there is a direct and obvious correlation between the size and quality of the road and the number and type of people at the resort.
Without exception when there is a large smooth road from the airport to the hotel you can guarantee that you will be competing for space on the beach or by the pool.
With that lesson well learnt, I now only book holidays where the road is full of potholes - if there is a road at all.

This strategy recently meant that we enjoyed being one of only 3 families staying at a delightful family hotel in the rural and unspoilt resort of Cavus Bay in southern Turkey.

The locals look and smile as you pass. The waiters great you with enthusiasm and charm. Look closely and you will find a bargain in the local bazaar.
We stayed at the Hotel Albos situated on the beach, in the heart of the bay, couples stylish simplicity with the very best in service and comfort.
The accommodation is arranged around beautiful gardens with rooms boasting lovely views of the pool, the mountains or gardens.
The family run hotel has one of the best restaurants in the bay and the welcome here is as good as it gets.
They spoilt us brilliantly and there is something very special about relaxing on an almost empty beach on a hot and sunny day in May - see weather in Turkey in May.
